The Sharjah Police have arrested two car thieves, including an Arab who is wanted by the Interpol.
The suspects, aged 58 and 36, allegedly stole light and heavy vehicles from different parts of the country. The police recovered a truck the duo stole and have handed it back to its owner.
The police received a tip-off that a suspect was trying to sell a stolen container truck for Dh40,000 at a used cars showroom in another emirate.
A police team set a trap, with an officer posing as a buyer. The duo was arrested red-handed as they attempted to sell the stolen truck. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to stealing the truck and other vehicles across the country.
On checking their criminal records, the police found that one of the suspects is wanted by the Interpol for stealing a vehicle in another country. A warrant had been issued for his arrest, said the police.
Colonel Ahmed Saeed Hareb, Director of Middle Area Police Department in Sharjah, said the two suspects are currently under detention and will be referred to the public prosecution.
Hareb urged motorists to avoid parking their vehicles in deserted areas. He also advised them to instal car alarms and devices that can track their vehicles.
