A taxi driver has been charged with murder at the Dubai Court of First Instance for stabbing his roommate to death.
Public prosecution records show that the incident took place on June 11 in Al Muraqqabat when the 40-year-old Pakistani defendant stabbed the victim multiple times, killing him on the spot.
A 32-year-old Pakistani agricultural engineer said that he woke up to the screams of the victim on June 11. "I saw the defendant holding a knife and stabbing the victim. I grabbed him and could stop him from further stabbing the man."
In his statement during the public prosecution investigation, the witness said that when he asked the defendant why he stabbed the victim, he answered, "It just happened".
A police official said the incident was reported from a building in Hor Al Anz around 1am. "The victim was spotted lying on his back in the bedroom with multiple stab wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was already dead."
The official told the investigating prosecutor that the accused man was sitting outside the room with an injury below his right knee. "The crime weapon was found near the victim's body."
According to the forensic report, the cause of death was the severe internal bleeding caused by deep stab wounds. The victim was not drunk or under the influence of any drugs at the time of his death, the report said.
The trial will continue on October 27.
