According to prosecution records, the two Emiratis, identified as S.A. and I.A., aged 23 and 21, had planned to kill the victim and relentlessly followed him in their car, driven by S.A. The victim tried to elude them in vain until he became exhausted and was run over by their speeding vehicle in Oud Al Muttaina area.

The brothers earlier denied a premeditated murder charge in the Court of First Instance and claimed it was an accident.

The victim succumbed to the severe injuries he sustained to his head and body, with fractures and internal ruptures all over, causing severe bleeding, according to the forensic medicine report.

The case dates back to June 29, 2012. It happened in the early morning on a side road of Algeria Street in Oud Al Mutaina. The victim was walking with other people when the two accused spotted the victim and exited their 4WD and tried to attack him with swords and a hammer, but he managed to run away.

They drove their car at high speed in the wrong direction in pursuit of the victim, who tried to elude them in vain. Witnesses said S.A. would not stop the car until he ran the victim over in front of several people. The victim’s body was also dragged for a distance under the defendants’ car.

The police arrested the pair nearby, shortly after the incident.

A policewoman, who lived in the area and witnessed the incident, called the cops. She claimed in the investigation she saw the brothers speed towards the victim before running over him.

The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
