Saeed Humaid Nasser, Director of Anti-Narcotic Department of the Ajman Police, attributed the increase in drug cases among youth to family negligence, weakness of faith in God, unemployment and improper social raising among many reasons. Fighting this crimes require collective collaboration of police, parent and community members, he added.
Highlighting the statistics, he said that drug cases saw an increase in 2011 with 93 cases in which 156 suspects were arrested in comparison with 2010, during which 44 cases were reported and 65 suspects arrested. Till June 2012, a total of 55 cases were registered in the emirate in which 84 suspects were reported.
The Ajman Police also referred eight addicts to rehabilitation centres in 2010, while it was increased to 11 in 2011. In the current year, 16 addicts have been referred to treatment till date, he added.
