The Dubai Police seized 501kg of drugs in 2018 as compared to 340kg in 2017, the anti-narcotics department has revealed.
Colonel Khalid bin Muweiza, deputy director of the general department of anti-narcotics, pointed out 2,734 people suspected of abusing, dealing or promoting drugs were arrested by the police in 2018 in comparison to 2,553 such suspects in 2017. The total number of drug-related cases recorded last year reached 1,833, as compared to 1,742 in 2017.

He added that the anti-narcotics department succeeded in closing and blocking 44 websites that promoted drugs In 2018. As many as 59 such sites were blocked in 2017.
"The department is working relentlessly - in cooperation with authorities concerned - to combat drug menace and arrest drug traffickers who endanger society and youth," he said, adding "we are also working to enhance security and stability in the emirate of Dubai and the UAE".
He said that the Dubai Police have spared no effort to help bust international drug rackets. The police provided 158 countries with intelligence information in 2018, which led to the arrest of 158 suspects and seizure of 1,526kg of narcotics internationally.
