The last strike, in 2008, lasted 57 days
Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Belouchi, an Emirati in his 70s, and three of his Asian crew who ventured out into the sea in a fishing boat and went missing since last Wednesday evening were found and rescued by the Omani authorities. Their boat had broken down and moved outside the UAE territorial waters.
The rough and turbulent sea drifted the boat towards the coast of Khasab State in Oman, 90 kilometres off Khor Fakkan, according to a statement released by the Khor Fakkan Fishermen Association on Sunday.
A relative of Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Belouchi confirmed the news of the boat being found by the Omani police at Khasab state. The police contacted the family directly and assured them that all four are in good health condition.
The four missing men had lost contact with their families after they went out fishing from the Khor Fakkan seaport last Wednesday. Their relatives called the security authorities saying that the four men at sea had no communication equipment to contact the coast guards. Their mobile phones were switched off possibly because the batteries had run out, and the sea was still rough. The search and rescue operations coordination centre in Abu Dhabi and Al Thuraiya network took charge of the search operations.
Security authorities and the coast guards of the Eastern Coast have warned fishermen against going out into the sea as the weather conditions were still unstable. They also urged people to call the emergency number of the coast guards if a need arose.
