Abu Dhabi: Four people were injured when a massive fire broke out in an apartment of a building on busy Zayed The First Street, also known as Electra Street.

According to Abu Dhabi Police, the fire broke out on the 16th floor and spread to the 17th, engulfing six apartments.

The fire also caused heavy traffic jam for half-an-hour with spectators stopping and nearby residents flocking near the building. However, traffic police and civil defence team dispersed the crowd to make way for the rescue operations.

The police also deployed two of its rescue helicopters to shift the injured to the nearby Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.

According to the police, three people were treated with smoke suffocation on the site.

“First, the building was evacuated to avoid any further casualties. It was a massive fire but was controlled from spread without loss of time,” said Jamshed Ahmed, a nearby resident.
