According to a senior officer, the thieves were arrested by a police patrol team in the Umm Al Thu’oob area. “Though the suspects fled the scene when the police approached them, they were tracked and arrested,” said Col Mohammed Al Bairaq, Director-General of the Police Operations.

“The detainees proved to have stolen large amounts of electric cables and a variety of sanitaryware from the said site and stored them at another hideout,” he added.

Major Salem Halees, acting Director of Criminal Investigations Department, said that the suspects admitted to stealing from the residential compound. “The landlord was not aware of the robbery because the watchman left the site unattended for a long time.” The suspects were referred to the prosecution for legal action. “Landlords are urged to hire watchman to protect their properties, particularly if under construction,” Major Halees said. Early this month, CID officers of the Umm Al Quwain Police had arrested five minors, aging nine to 14, of different nationalities, after they smashed the glasses of several vehicles and robbed cash and other valuables from them.

“The five suspects included a Pakistani and four from the Comoros Islands,” Major Halees said, noting that the robberies all occurred during Friday prayers.

“The minors, later proved to have robbed the vehicles to buy motor bikes, clothes and toys, were involved in six robberies, worth around Dh50,000,” he added.
