3-year-old becomes victim of parents’ quarrel

The RAK Misdemeanour Court has seen a tragic case in which a three-year-old girl fell victim to a dispute between her father and mother who insisted on divorce.

The case unfolded when the father failed to settle a family dispute with his wife amicably, and handed over his little girl to the RAK Police to give to his wife before leaving the country.

As per court records, the mother used to beat up her daughter harshly. One day, the husband interfered to save the girl. The husband and wife then started fighting, following which the wife lodged a complaint with the RAK Police against her husband, claiming that he bit and swore at her.

The litigant couple had earlier entered the UAE on visit visas after their house was totally destroyed in their war-torn country. They were trying to a find a job here, but could not make it.

As the wife refused to receive her daughter, the husband sought the police’s help to hand over his daughter in the presence of the woman’s lawyer, and left the country.The wife had approached the court for divorce, requesting an emergency maintenance and civil compensation.

In another case, the RAK Criminal Court heard a case in which two young men have been charged for driving over and killing their friend while he was asleep.

The case dates back to early last year when the accused decided to kill their fellow mate due to certain disputes. They went to their hideout where they used to consume liquor. Finding their friend asleep, the duo drove their car over him several times killing him.The Court, presided over by presiding judge Yusuf Rajab, and Hamad Abdul Karim, and Arif Al Zaabi as members, ordered adjournment of the case to the next session for hearing the defence lawyer.

Hotel robbery

The RAK Criminal Court heard another case in which a young Arab resident in his twenties robbed a hotel here.

The accused had earlier rushed into the hotel, masked and armed with a weapon. He forced a cashier to open the guests’ safes, robbed Dh9,000, and fled the scene.

The RAK Police, having been alerted of the robbery, investigated the footage of a CCTV camera therein. A trap was set and the robber was identified, arrested, and brought to court. He is facing charges of robbery, possessing a weapon without licence, and threatening others’ life.
