According to the police, the horrific accident took place opposite to Al Qiriya neighbourhood, 10km North of Fujairah city.

“A bus, owned by a cleaning company, with 19 workers of different Asian nationalities on board, which was taking them from their residence to their workplace in Fujairah, flipped several times as it approached the Al Qiriya neighbourhood”, said Major Dr Saeed Al Hassani, head of information and public relations at the Fujairah Police. He blamed the driver of the bus for speeding and making a sudden turn.

After the accident, traffic patrols and ambulance vans rushed to the accident site, and initial viewing and inspection report showed that the bus flipped over twice due to the sharp turn and crashed into a kerb, he said.

Al Hassani said, the police personnel made huge efforts to rescue the injured but three people died on the spot, including the 28-year-old Bangladeshi bus driver, identified as M.A. The other two deceased were identified as a 24-year-old man, A.S. and a 23-year-old woman, T.A., both Sri Lankans, he said.

The other 16 injured passengers were taken to the Fujairah Hospital, of whom four were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as their condition is critical.
