One person received severe burns and 12 others suffered suffocation after a fire broke out in a hotel in Al Ras area of Dubai, forcing its evacuation, on Thursday.
The Civil Defence personnel also had to rescue 12 people trapped in an elevator.
The fire in the three-storey Al Firdos Hotel located opposite Hyatt Regency Hotel was first reported at 11.45am. Firefighters and fire engines from Al Hamriya, Al Qusais and Karama Civil Defence stations controlled the fire by 12.30pm.
One person who suffered serious burns was rushed to a hospital, while the 12 others who were suffocated after inhaling smoke were treated on the scene.
More than 100 guests were evacuated from the hotel, and 12 people who were trapped in an elevator were safely brought out.
According to preliminary investigation, the fire started among furniture stored haphazardly below a staircase on the ground floor of the hotel. Forensic and fire experts are investigating cause of the fire.
