A man who tried to smuggle drugs into a Fujairah prison has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and slapped a fine of Dh50,000.
The Fujairah federal criminal law found H. A. M. 24, a GCC citizen guilty of consuming and possessing narcotics with the intent of trading.
He was arrested after he tried to smuggle a quantity of Tramadol pills into prison. The police have confiscated the pills.
The case dates back to September when the security guards in Fujairah prison arrested H.A.M. and recovered narcotic pills from his possession, with the intent to sell them to inmates.
The convict had gone to the prison to visit some of his friends who were remanded in jail. When frisked, they found the narcotic pills stashed in his dress.
He was immediately arrested, and on interrogation, he admitted to have possessed the drugs for personal use.
He denied promoting and selling them to inmates.
He was sent to Fujairah hospital for a check-up, where he was tested positive.
He was then referred to the public prosecution which charged him with possessing drugs with the intent of peddling and trading. He was sent to the criminal court which pleaded him guilty on the charges leveled against him.
