The Under-17, U-15 and U-12 teams of YTCA will take part in the 30-over tournament, being organised by YTCA and the Durham County Cricket Club at the Longhirsthall Cricket Ground.

Abu Dhabi-based Shaikh Zayed Cricket Academy, Durham Academy, India’s Madan Lal Cricket Academy and Don Bosco Academy are the teams competing for the U-17 title.

The major teams for U-15 tournament are YTCA, Durham U-13, Madan Lal CA, Cleveland and Newcastle City. Meanwhile YTCA, Durham U-10, Durham City and Durham School would compete for the U-12 title.

“It is our academy’s 13th annual tour to the UK. It is a good opportunity for our players to display their skills,” said Shahzad Altaf, chief organiser of YTCA.

The title sponsors are Home Centre, while Splash and Everest Sports are the co-sponsors.

A special cap ceremony was held at the Seven Sands Hotel on Friday. The chief guest Jon Long, head of member services, ICC, unveiled the trophies for the tournament.

“All the four local teams from the UAE will play a series of friendly matches before the tournament,” Shahzad added.

“This tournament is growing from strength to strength and we wish to expand it to other parts of the world soon,” he said.

While the four YTCA teams will return to Dubai on August 3, a senior YTCA team will play a three-match series against Durham Academy and other friendly matches, including two two-day matches against South Northumberland and a Scottish team.

Muhammad Ali will lead the YTCA Under-11 team, while Sairaj Venkat will be the captain of the Under-15 team. Abrar Khazi will be the skipper of the U-17 squad while the senior squad is led by Fahad Hashmi.
