Yogi down Eurocon, enter semis
SHARJAH — Avadoot Amonkar produced a brilliant all-round performance and Asim Malik smashed a fine unbeaten half-century to guide Yogi Group to a four-wicket victory over Eurocon Alubond in a quarter-final match of the fourth Al Dhaid Gold Cup 40-overs-a-side tournament.
Avadoot first snared two wickets for 24 runs and then scored 34 off just 22 balls with four sixes to help his seal a place in the semi-finals of the tournament, organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Eurocon Alubond, batting first, made 186 for nine with Nasir Aziz (31), Saleh Zada (29 off 20 balls), Waqas Ali (28 not out off 10 balls with one four and three sixes) and Samiullah (25) doing bulk of the scoring.
Shadeep Silva was the most successful Yogi Group bowler, taking three wickets for 25 runs while Salman Faris and Avadoot picked up two each to restrict the Eurocon innings. Yogi Group, in reply, achieved the victory target in the 35th over with Asim Malik hitting an unbeaten 51. Salman Faris (33), Avadoot and Ayoob Inayat (32 off 27 balls with one four and three sixes) also chipped in with useful contributions.
Vikrant Shetty and Nasir Aziz took two wickets each, but Yogi Group batsmen remained unruffled and reached the victory target without much fuss.
