Shiv dazzles for YTCA in Care U15

DUBAI — Young batsmen dominated the proceedings in the Shyam Bhatia supported Cricket for Care Under-15 tournament conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council at 7he Sevens cricket grounds in Dubai.

Shiv Mehra of Young Talent Cricket Academy (YTCA) dazzled for his team with a superb batting display carrying his bat through and making sure his team edge past Emirates Cricket Training Dubai’s challenging target of 200 runs. Opener Shiv, son of yester-year cricket star Vijay Mehra, played a very responsible knock and found a good ally in Abdullah Khan as both put on 105 runs for the first wicket with some very mature batting.

Shiv carried his bat through and remained unbeaten making 79 runs in 55 balls in which he struck eleven boundaries while Abdullah was not far behind with a knock of 69 runs in 41 balls including thirteen fours. Earlier Divyendu Shekhar played a very attractive knock making a quick-fire 78 runs in 45 balls with nine hits to the fence and was the mainstay of ECT Dubai, while Ravi Raj bowled well for YTCA to prise out four wickets for 28 runs.

In their second game Young talents stuttered against Desert Cubs Cricket Academy as young Kulith Rabel played a lead role for his team making 61 runs in 44 balls including five fours. He was well supported by good knocks from the blade of Nelukshan De Silva and Waruna Perera who both made 30 runs, and Zafri Zafardeen who made 25 runs to sail past YTCA’s total of 175 runs. When YTCA batted, the top order failed to fire but Sanjosh Satya played attractive cricket striking 54 runs in just 30 balls and hitting seven boundaries to ensure YTCA finished with a fighting total. Liam Karlson 35, and Sreenivasan Sarma 34, were the other two batsmen to help them to the total of 175 runs, while Shamith Jaywardena was the pick of the bowling for Desert Cubs with three wickets for 19 runs.

Al Ain Sportsplex did very well to win against Sharjah Cricket Academy as man of the match Nasim Hassan shone for them with a brilliant knock of 75 runs in 53 balls with nine boundaries which helped them race past Sharjah’s target of 170 runs in which Shajahan top scored with 71 runs in 63 balls and was ably supported by Salah Shakil who made a bright knock of 61 runs before retiring hurt. MCC Zayed Academy pulled off the biggest win of the day as they easily won their match against Unique Cricket Training by seven wickets. They stamped their supremacy on the game by first bowling out UCT for a paltry 92 runs with Moiz Qazi and Simon Quadros running riot to pick up six wickets between them to bundle out UCT for a low score and then rattling off the small target.
