Scotland, who went down to hosts the UAE in the play-off for the ninth place, beat Papua New Guinea by 77 runs.
An all-round show by Ross McLean and a stoic half-century from Michael English helped Scotland Under-19s defeat Papua New Guinea Under-19s in the 13th place play-off semifinal at the Shaikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium’s Nursery Oval 1 on Monday.

McLean scored 41 from 56 balls and took three for 31 with his off-spin, while English made 72 from 123 balls, to script the win. Left-arm spinner Mark Watt took three for 26.Opting to bat, Scotland were in spot of bother after losing two wickets for 20 runs, with openers Chris Sole falling to Alei Nao and Andrew Umeed castled by Nosaina Pokana.
But McLean and English put on 101 runs for the third wicket to pull Scotland back on track. McLean’s innings came to an end when he was castled by Pokana. His 41 had two boundaries.
But all the hard work had come to nought as Scotland stumbled from 121 for three to 209 all out in 48.3 overs. Pokana finished with three for 27, while Nao and Kabua Morea took two wickets each.
Papua New Guinea couldn’t get going and were all out for 132 in 43.3 overs. Opener Riley Hekure scored 26 from 44 balls with one boundary and a six, while Allan Joseph too made 26 from 68 balls with two boundaries.
English was adjudged the Player of the Match.
