Knight Riders won the first match by 11 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method after rain stopped play 9.2 overs into their innings.

After the first game, a persistent drizzle continued to soak the Kingsmead stadium, forcing the organisers to call of the match between Mumbai Indians and defending champions Rajasthan Royals.

The umpires were expected to inspect the ground at 7.15 p.m. but play was called off before that due to the wet outfield.
