Phoenix Medicine team too strong for Brooke Bond Unilever

ABU DHABI — Phoenix Medicine defeated Brooke Bond Unilever to finish their group games with six points in the Carpetland Ramadan Cup Twenty20 tournament at the Shaikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium on Monday night. Phoenix Medicine scored a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Brooke Bond Unilever to put them level with Yogi Group, who also have six points, Group B.

In the other game of the night, William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana made it two wins out of two by walloping SKMC by 123 runs, in Group A.

Batting first, Brooke Bond Unilever were all out fort 138 in their 20 overs. The top order failed to give them a good start but Anthony Dias and Sanket Nayar put on a fight. Anthony Dias scored 40 from 35 balls with two boundaries and two sixes, while Sanket Nayar clubbed five sixes in his 20-ball 39.

Shakeel Raja took three for 16, while Shoaib Laghari took three for 34.

Phoenix Medicine got home in 13.4 overs, losing just three wickets. One-down batsman Sharjeel Khan top scored with an unbeaten 69 from 33 deliveries, which was studded with five boundaries and five sixes.

Haroon Ahmed made 40 from 30 balls, with the help of six boundaries. Sharjeel Khan and Haroon Ahmed put on 90 runs for the third wicket.

In the other game, William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana posted 232 for the loss of three wickets in their 20 overs. Mehroz Khan top scored with 67 from 50 balls, with six boundaries and two sixes. Sajad Ahmad scored a quickfire and unbeaten 64 from 19 balls, in which he clubbed five boundaries and five sixes. Haroon Iftikhar made 58 from 36 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.

Amir Qureshi took two for 53. In reply, SKMC could only muster 109 in their 20 overs. Abdul Haq took three for 11, while Mohd. Nadeem took two for six.
