Having delivered yet another successful season of the Abu Dhabi T10, Shaji Ul Mulk is now planning to take the shortest format of the game to different continents.

Mulk, the founder and chairman of Abu Dhabi T10 League, says his team is in talks with a few cricket boards with the aim of popularising the sport’s newest format.

“From the beginning, the vision of the T10 has been to take the event to multiple countries. We are pretty focused now on doing that. We are looking at new markets,” Mulk told Khaleej Times.

“You can expect some announcement in the next couple of months. We are about to sign with some of the cricket boards to take T10 to those countries,” added Mulk before revealing the names of the countries his team has been in talks with.

“So we are planning to go to the US. We are also discussing with few other cricket boards to move the T10 cricket globally as we want to do multiple T10 tournaments. Each one will be an independent property. So, apart from the US, we are also looking at Singapore, Australia and Sri Lanka,” he said.

Mulk says the organsiers are also trying to give UAE players better opportunities on the back of their impressive displays at the Abu Dhabi T10.

“The UAE boys’ performance has been quite pleasantly surprising. They performed well and competed with the best in the world. So now we are looking at increasing the number of UAE players in the squad from two to three from next year, so we can improve the standards of cricket here,” he said.

“And we are also discussing about having two UAE players in the playing eleven. So that will be a support (to local cricket).”

Mulk is also ‘extremely’ happy with the success of the 2021 edition of the tournament despite the challenges posed by a raging pandemic.

“It’s extremely satisfying. It was a huge challenge no doubt, brining all the international players for the league amid an intense pandemic situation,” he said.

“Having said all that, to execute it without a single positive case in the entire duration and also reach a global viewership, we are waiting for the final report, but we have got over 50 per cent increase in the viewership globally. So it has been an extremely satisfying moment.”
