Nasir Shines as Preston University Enter Challenger Cup Final

ABU DHABI — Inspired by Nasir’s five wicket haul, Preston University, Ajman outclassed International Institute of Technology and Management (IITM) by seven wickets in the semifinals of the Challenger Cup of the Interface Gulf Cup cricket tournament at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium on Friday.

The tournament is being organised by Young Talents Cricket Academy under the auspices of Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.

IITM’s decision to bat first proved to be their undoing as they lost regular wickets against some accurate bowling by Shoaib, Aamir and Nasir as they managed to make only 106/9.

Nasir emerged the leading wicket-taker as he wrapped up the IITM tail to finish off with a fine five-wicket haul for 22 runs. Shoaib took two for 22 while Aamir gave away 21 runs for two wickets.

IITM’s opener Omer Alvi’s (46) 48-run third wicket partnership with Rashid Mohammad (13) was the only high point.

Preston University beat IITM by 7 wkts. IITM 106 for 9 wkts (Omer Alvi 46, Rashid Mohammad 13; Nasir 5/22, Shoaib 2/14, Aamir 2/21). Preston University 107 for 3 wkts in 13 overs (Shoaib 29, Zamaan 37 not out, Owais 26; Anoop Udeshi 2/42).

ELITE CUP:

Heriot Watt University beat Skyline University College by 6 wkts. Skyline University College 124 all out in 24.5 overs (Suhail 21, Fahad 28; Qasim Zubair 3/47, Aqib Malik 3/14, Nuhman Mirza 2/19, Suhail Ahmed 2/3). Heriot Watt 125 for 4 wkts in 22.1 overs (Aqib Malik 59 not out, Owais Hameed 29; Osama Ahmed 3/27).

UOWD bt AUS by 22 runs

UOWD 137 all out in 26.3 overs (Pranav Arora 28, Vivek Reji Thomas 38, Sufiyan Farooq 21, Yash Makar 19; Jaffer Ali 2/27, Fahad Tariq 2/25). AUS 115 all out in 23.2 overs (Fahad Tariq 20, Naresh 43; Mudasir Wani 4/35, Yash Makar 3/27).

UNDER 16: Al Sadiq YTCA bt Westminster YTCA by 4 wkts.
