Dubai Basketball, the newly-established professional sports franchise, will become the first UAE team to compete in a major European league
The Tournament which is sponsored by Blenheim Energy and conducted by Dubai Cricket Council has provided a platform for senior local players to test themselves in the longer version of the limited overs format and Ibrahim Malik did just that by slamming a superb double hundred to crown himself with a rare batting record.
Although records are not maintained by the various cricket councils of the UAE but after some investigations with cricket officials it came to be known that Mansoor Pasha, the joint secretary of Sharjah Cricket Council had slammed a double hundred when he made an unbeaten 201 runs on cement wicket in 1987 for Bank of Oman against Dulsco at their ground in Ghusais.
Salim Iqbal a yesteryear cricketer who turned out for Dubai Bank was next best with a knock of 186 runs on cement wicket in the Bukhatir league which was played on a 45 overs format in previous years.
Brief scores: Ibsons Cricket Club beat Zultec Cricket Club by 193 runs: Ibsons C.C. 391 for 3 in 50 overs (Shehriyar Khan 38, Ibrahim Malik 205, Saqib Ali 100 n.o, Abdullah Ghazi 1 for 65). Zultec CC 198 for all out in 43.3 overs (Azeem Mohammed 22, Bilal Saleem 35, Abdullah Ghazi 40, Mohammed Tauqeer 3 for 24, Saqib Ali 4 for 33). Man of the Match: Ibrahim Malik of Ibsons Cricket Club.
