Leon powers Mahek to victory

DUBAI - C Leon’s all-round performance saw Mahek CC carve out a six-wicket victory over Al Futtaim Motors Toyota in the third Umm Al Quwain Premier T-20 League, held under the supervision of the Emirates Cricket Board and under the auspices of the Ajman Cricket Council, at Umm Al Quwain ground.

Leon scored an unbeaten 62 and snared two wickets to earn the man-of-the-match award.

Chasing a target of 182 for victory, Mahek faced some anxious moments as they lost quick wickets early in the innings but Leon and Raj (34) put and unbroken 75-runs stand for the fifth wicket to carry their side to victory. Saqib (36), Santosh (18) and Waseem (14) were the other contributors for the winners. Asghar claimed two wickets for 32 runs.

Earlier, Al Futtaim Motors Toyota scored 181 for 8 with opener Wasim hitting a 45-ball 76, which included three sixes and nine boundaries. Asim (25), Rawoof (20) and Asghar (18) were the other main scorers.

Santosh was the most successful bowler for the winners with three wickets while Leon picked up two.

In another match, Interface Transworld beat ZAF Amazon by 99 runs. Opting to bat first, Interface put on 231 and later restricted their rivals to 132 for nine.

Opener Fahad was the top scorer for the winners with a chanceless 94 and hit seven sixes and nine fours while facing 44 deliveries. His partner Pranav made 51 from 43 balls while Ibthisam scored 36 and Ramveer 24 as they set a victory target of 231 for ZAF Amazon.

Abdullah claimed two wickets for 40.

In reply, ZAF could manage only 132 for 9 with only Ahsan (26), Maktoum (25), Sajid (24 not out) and Ali (16) reaching double figures. Anil was the most successful bowler with 4-33. Fahad was named the man-of-the-match.In other matches, Veteran Grandslam lost to DCC by seven wickets and
