Lanka Lions enter semifinals

SHARJAH — Kelum Fernando and Malintha Perera hammered solid half-centuries to steer Lanka Lions to a narrow two-wicket victory over Gyan Steel in a quarter-final match of the 23rd Sharjah Ramadan Tournament for the Interface Transworld Cup at the Sharjah stadium on Sunday night, a press release said.

The tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, is supported by 106.2 HUM FM and CBFS as associate sponsors Kelum, cracked 55 off 51 balls with four fours and one six while Malintha made 53 off 47 balls with two fours and one six as Lanka Lions overhauled Gyan Steel’s challenging total of 177 for seven with one over spare.

Gyan Steel had their chances, but Aruna Bandaranayake suffocated their hopes with a blistering innings with 23 off 11 balls which included one four and two sixes to seal the victory.

Ghulam Mustafa took three wickets for 35 runs while Syed Mubashir snared two for 33, but Lanka Lions held their nerve to sail into the semifinals.

Earlier, Gyan Steel had built their innings Shehzad Ahmed who scored a fluent 39 off 16 balls with two fours and four sixes.
