DUBAI - Kevin Pietersen came under a lot of pressure during the Test series against Pakistan as his highest score in six innings remained 32.
He had no answer to the Pakistani spinners and he even criticised DRS for being given lbw against Saeed Ajmal and Abdul Rehman on a number of occasions.
Coach Andy Flower’s decision to open the innings with Pietersen has worked wonders and it has helped the right-hander regain form.
Captain Alastair Cook says that these are just the glimpses of destructiveness Pietersen can cause to the opposition.
He scooped many awards including the man-of-the-match award on Tuesday night and he is enjoying opening the innings with Cook.
“There are no big issues as for as my batting is concerned. I go there and play according to the situation. I can say it was probably the best innings I’ve played,” Pietersen said.
“Mushy has done a lot of hard work during these days and it is paying off. I just wanted to take the game deep, and I wanted to target bowlers as well. I think that was the key to the success. You need experience, lots of it, in order to keep the situation very simple — and back your ability.”
