Jadeja will not be able to play in the third edition of IPL beginning March 12.
”The ban was on account of Ravindra Jadeja not signing the renewal contract with the Rajasthan Royals and attempting instead to negotiate a larger financial contract with some of the other IPL franchises, thus resulting in a serious non-adherence to the IPL player guidelines,” IPL said in a statement.
The statement said it was a “unanimous decision taken by the IPL governing council and on instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Ravindra Jadeja will not be allowed to play for any IPL team for the next one year.”
Clarifying the decision, IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi said the decision was taken after taking into account Jadeja’s representation to the BCCI president and a further representation by the Rajasthan Royals.
”The player guidelines laid out by the governing council of the IPL are sacrosanct and all players will need to strictly adhere to the same. We will not tolerate any player playing games or blackmailing any teams or the IPL/BCCI in any manner.”
Jadeja played for Rajasthan Royals in the first two seasons of the IPL but has not subsequently found a place in any franchise. He signed with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 as an under-19 player. The other U-19 players signed two-year contracts last year, but Jadeja signed a one-year contract. The Royals did not name him in the squad this year.
