SHARJAH - Niresh Fernando slammed a brilliant half-century while Ahsan Ali returned with a tidy four-wicket haul to steer New Medical Centre (NMC) to a convincing 77-run victory over Fly Emirates in the 37th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at the Sharjah stadium on Thursday night.

Fernando hit an exact 50 off 64 balls with five fours to lead the NMC batting charge. With Indika Sampath (44 off 28 balls with two fours and four sixes), Sandeep Shetty (42 off 33 balls with six fours) and Gyan Silva (41 not out off 50 balls) also making useful contributions, NMC did well to post a challenging total of 277 in the allotted 45 overs.

Rehan Adil and Javed Ismail picked up two wickets each, but the NMC batsmen were hardly threatened. Fly Emirates, in reply, were bowled out for 200 in 38 overs.

Nigel Fernandez top-scored with 45 off 70 balls while Javed Ismail (30 off 28 balls) and Mohammed Iqbal (26 off 17 balls) also had good starts, but they failed to convert them into big innings they needed to match pace with the asking rate. Ahsan Ali bowled really well to keep the Fly Emirates batsmen on the back foot. He conceded 49 runs for his four wickets. Ahsan was well assisted by Shadeep Silva who snared three for 34 to help NMC seal a comfortable win in the end.
