After suffering two consecutive losses to Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, Daredevils finally came good against Pune Warriors Sunday night, and moved out of the bottom spot to the ninth in the 10-team league.

Against Pune Warriors, Daredevils’ bowlers, barring James Hopes, went for runs but a disciplined performance by the batsmen took them through. The Daredevils batsmen chased down a target of 188 with four balls to spare.

Daredevils, who have a completely new side this time, are heavily depended on skipper Virender Shewag, who is the only old face since 2008.

For them, a good start from Sehwag and David Warner will matter the most against Deccan Chargers. In the middle-order, Venugopal Rao has emerged as the most crucial player and is also the highest run-getter for his team with 117 runs from three matches.

But bowling remains a concern for the hosts. New-ball bowler Ashok Dinda is inconsistent while all-rounder Irfan Pathan hasn’t delivered to prove that he was worth $1.9 million.

Coach Greg Shipperd defended Pathan, saying the left-handed fast bowler needs some time since he is coming from a long lay-off.

”Pathan has got some time. He is coming back from a long lay-off. That sharp edge of match play is something which is not showing but I can see improvement in very game. He is more comfortable with his body. His batting is going to click. He is timing the ball well. Even yesterday he picked the field and played some nice shots. He is going to be a terrfic player for the franchise. The length of the game is perfect for someone like Pathan to make a comeback,” said Shipperd on the eve of the match.

For Daredevils, Morne Morkel, who missed the last game due to injury, is going to be the best option.

”There is a strong possibility that Morne could return for tomorrow’s game. We will have the strategy meeting in the morning and will decide accordingly,” said Shipperd.

In comparison, Deccan Chargers have a balanced bowling attack in Dale Styen, Ishant Sharma and former Daredevils leg-spinner Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha and Manpreet Gony.

But for them, as their key all-rounder Cameron White admits, the challenge will be to get rid of Warner and Sehwag early on in the innings.

”There will be a lot of time spent on planning about those two (Sehwag and Warner). Delhi have a lot of good players and restricting and taking wickets will be key,” said White.

Chargers’ strong batting line-up - comprising skipper Kumar Sangakkara, Jean-Paul Duminy, Shikhar Dhawan, in-form Bharat Chipli and Ravi Teja - has the ability to exploit the Daredevils bowling.

Deccan Chargers finally broke their home jinx last week, and this time Daredevils would also love to give their home fans something to cheer about.
