Batting first, UBL had posted a par 142 under lights, and Qazi had felt that they were 20 or 30 runs short. But his bowlers stepped up to the plate and were backed up by some brilliant fielding which turned the tables.

Qazi said that UAE Internationals Naeemuddin Aslam and Amjad Ali and UAE Under-10 player Fahad Tariq were brilliant in the field and added that the stumping of dangerman Ayoub Inayat by UAE international Abdul Rehman was also crucial.

“Initially, I thought we were a bit short when we got 142. But the way the bowlers came back and the brilliant fielding, turned the game for us. Naeemuddin Aslam, Fahad Tariq and Amjad Ali were brilliant in the field and the stumping off Ayoub Inayat, who was going for a reverse sweep, too was crucial. It was a team effort. Everybody gave more than their 100 percent,” an elated Qazi said after the game.

Qazi had said during the innings break that UBL, consisting of seven UAE internationals, were 20 to 30 runs short but added that the ball was stopping and not coming onto the bat.

He said that the key was to keep Yogi Group, consisting of four UAE internationals, under pressure. “Yogi Group recovered from those two quick wickets and were in touch with the target. We knew that they could come back. But we worked well and put them under pressure. Their batsman Ayoub Inayat was looking to be the dangerman,” said Qazi, who has been captain of UBL since 2006.
