Australia bat against Afghanistan at Sharjah

Dashing allrounder Glenn Maxwell was given a debut as Australia won the toss and decided to bat in the first-ever one-day against Afghanistan at Sharjah Stadium here on Saturday.

The 23-year-old becomes Australia’s 196 capped player in all one-day internationals, having impressed in Australian domestic cricket with his hard hitting batting.

Afghanistan, an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2001, is playing their second one-day against a full ICC member after having played their first against Pakistan here in February this year.
