Anderson not available for ICC role

New Zealander John Anderson will not offer himself as an alternative candidate for the vice-presidency of the International Cricket Council.

After six of 10 test-playing nations rejected the nomination of former Australian prime minister John Howard.

Howard was chosen ahead of Anderson as the joint Australian and New Zealand nominee for the position of vice president, whose appointee will become ICC president in two years.

In an unprecedented move, six nations led by India opposed Howard’s nomination for a position traditionally filled through a system of regional rotation.

New Zealand Cricket chairman Alan Isaac said Anderson indicated he was now too busy for the role.
