The UAE has intensified measures against the spread of Covid-19 by suspending the issuance of all types of labour permits until further notice.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said all labour permits, including for drivers and domestic workers, are suspended effective from March 19.  (Coronavirus outbreak: All the latest updates) 

The decision exempts intra-corporate transfer and Expo 2020 permits.

The ministry has already halted the issuance of all types of entry visas, with the exception of diplomatic passport holders. The country is also preventing the entry of valid residency permits holders who are outside the country from March 19, 2020 for a period of two weeks, which may be subject to renewal.

The UAE Health Ministry on Thursday announced 27 new coronavirus cases and the recovery of five.
Meanwhile, the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) - Abu Dhabi instructed all tour operators in the Capital to immediately suspend services and activities such as sea cruises, desert camps, safaris and floating restaurants, in line with the recommended measures against Covid-19.
