A huge spike in single-day recoveries of Covid-19 patients over the past few days could indicate the UAE is on the road to early recovery from the pandemic. Recoveries have doubled in the past three weeks, from 12,755 on May 21 to 25,234 on Thursday.
Thursday's figures show 1,217 recoveries and 479 new cases, which spells good news in the fight against the disease that has claimed more than 400,000 lives globally. There are more than 7 million cases across the world, including 2 million in the United States.
This is the second consecutive day that the UAE's recoveries are more than double new cases. On Wednesday, the country reported 1,277 recovered cases and 603 new infections.
The country's strategy of contract tracing, testing, treatment and intensive disinfection is delivering the desired results even as health officials have urged that citizens and residents continue to adhere to strict precautions for the gains to be sustainable.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention conducted 45,000 tests in a day. The country has expanded the scope of testing that will cover all residents eventually. It has conducted more than 2.5 million tests so far.
