The UAE has administered doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.
The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 7.1 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 72.6.
The UAE has administered more than 7 million Covid-19 vaccine doses at a distribution rate of 72.03 doses per 100 people, the local authorities announced on Friday.
The nationwide vaccination drive is facilitated through more than 205 medical centres spread across the country. The robust network of healthcare facilities ensured that more than 52 per cent of the total population got the vaccine.
The Word Health Organisation also said that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine (including Covishield) continues to have a positive benefit-risk profile, with tremendous potential to prevent infections and reduce deaths across the world.
This came as the WHO issued the following statement on the safety signals related to the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine: "As of 17 March 2021, more than 120 million cases of Covid-19 infections, with more than 2 million deaths, had been reported globally. Vaccination remains a critical tool to help prevent further illness and death and to control the pandemic.
