The UAE has administered 103,156 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 7.47 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 75.61.

AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine performed better than expected in a major late-stage trial, potentially paving the way for its emergency authorisation in the United States and bolstering confidence in the shot after numerous setbacks in Europe.

The drugmaker said on Monday that interim data from trials in Chile, Peru and the United States found the vaccine was 79 per cent effective in preventing symptomatic Covid-19 and, crucially, posed no increased risk of blood clots.

Meanwhile, Sinovac Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine appears to be safe and able to trigger immune responses among children and adolescents, according to preliminary results from early and mid-stage trials, the company said late on Monday.

The preliminary data was from Phase I and II clinical trials involving over 500 people between the ages of three and 17 who received two shots of either medium or low dosage of vaccine, or a placebo.
