Sharjah is set to open its Covid field hospital in Al Zahia next week, Khaleej Times has learnt.

Maj-Gen Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, had revealed the information on the sidelines of a recent media forum.

Brig-Gen Abdullah bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, confirmed that Al Zahia field hospital is all set to accommodate emergency cases related to Covid-19. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, a specialised medical team would be stationed at the facility. Police teams and volunteers will also be supporting its operations.

At a Press briefing earlier this week, the Ministry of Health and Prevention had said seven field hospitals with over 2,000 beds were expected to open across the country this month. Nearly 300 beds would be dedicated to critical cases.

The police have been working side by side with the healthcare sector to ensure safety and respond to residents’ needs in the time of Covid-19. The force has also been ramping up efforts to boost the public’s awareness of precautionary measures and the need to get the jab.

Part of the Sharjah Police’s priority is monitoring compliance with safety rules. “Most of the violations that have been recorded are failure to maintain adequate physical distance especially in commercial areas and failure to wear masks. We are hoping to reach zero violations during the coming period,” said Brig-Gen Bin Amer.
