The UAE has vaccinated 84,852 residents against Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 1.88 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 19.04.

Health authorities in the UAE on Saturday announced that the country is now number one globally when it comes to vaccinating "medically eligible" residents against Covid-19.

The UAE has achieved a vaccine distribution rate of 24.58 doses per 100 people in this particular category, according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).

Meanwhile, in the Capital, people on expired visit visas were allowed to take the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine at an Indian association in Abu Dhabi. According to office-bearers, nearly 4,200 people — including more than 50 with expired entry permits — took the shot as part of a 12-hour vaccination drive organised over the weekend.

Medical centres in the emirate are reporting waiting lists that run into several weeks. Some private healthcare centres have said they are 100 percent booked until March.

However, doctors in the UAE are advising women planning pregnancies and lactating mothers to avoid taking the Covid-19 vaccine as a precautionary measure until further studies are available.
