The UAE has vaccinated 138,154 residents against Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 1,665,987. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 16.84.

A top official from the UAE health sector on Thursday said that the UAE will never run out of Covid-19 vaccine stock. Dr Walid Zaher, chief research officer and vaccine project leader at G42 Healthcare, told Khaleej Times that vaccines are available at all centres. "There is enough to vaccinate the entire population," he said.

Meanwhile, authorities noted that Sinopharm’s Covid-19 vaccines will ‘likely’ be offered to children in the UAE, if ongoing trials in China yield positive results. Currently, the vaccine is administered only to those who are 18 years old and older.

Top experts have said that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine for Covid-19 can offer immunity for nine months. The comments come after assessment of data collected so far from the clinical trials of the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.
