Total active cases stand at 13,944

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 3,962 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,975 recoveries. Seven deaths were also reported.
The new cases were detected through additional 180,930 tests.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 29 stand at 297,014 while total recoveries are 269,999. The death toll rises to 826.

A surge in daily Covid infections across the globe has caused nations worldwide to scramble to procure vaccines and continue to extend or reinstate lockdowns to fight new coronavirus variants.
Dubai carrier Emirates has also announced suspensions of several flights amid new government directives to contain the spread of the virus. (Full list available here.)
Meanwhile, the UN on Thursday noted that the Covid crisis cost the global tourism sector $1.3 trillion in lost revenue in 2020. Revenue lost last year amounted to "more than 11 times the loss recorded during the 2009 global economic crisis", according to the World Tourism Organisation.
