The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Thursday reported 3,382 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,671 recoveries. Three deaths were also reported.
As many as new 126,625 Covid-19 tests were carried out, taking the total number of tests carried out in the country to more than 22.9 million so far.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 14 stand at 242,969 while total recoveries are 215,820. Death toll rises to 726.
On Wednesday, a top official offered promising news when he revealed that the UAE is currently on track to vaccinate 50 per cent of the population much before the targeted first quarter of 2021.
“With the efficacy and efficiency this operation is being conducted with right now, I think we will reach the target even before the set milestone,” Dr Walid Zaher, Chief Research Officer and Vaccine Project Leader, G42 Healthcare, told Khaleej Times in an interview.
Currently, more than 150 health centres are offering the vaccine free of cost across the country.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has plans to ban flights from Brazil as well as other South American countries.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has admitted that he is concerned about the latest mutant and a decision on totally banning flights from South American countries is under consideration.
