The number of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 800,000 on Tuesday, March 31. The global tally is in accordance with the figures released by the Johns Hopkins University based in the United States. Deaths from the infection stood at 38,714.
The number of global coronavirus cases had crossed 600,000, on March 28, while the death toll then stood at 27,862.
Besides the cases and deaths, a total of 172,657 people were known to have recovered from the disease so far, Xinhua news agency quoted the update maintained by the varsity's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) as saying.
Although the pandemic originated in China last December, now other countries have surpassed it both in terms of infection numbers and fatalities.
