Violations of Covid precautionary measures can be reported via the police number 901 or the police app. “This will help us ensure safety in society,” the police said.

Last week, the police said they issued a total of 443 fines to mall-goers for not wearing face masks this month.

A further 1,569 people were issued warnings, while 17 gatherings were found to be in violation of Covid-19 precautionary measures.

Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, had singled out private events, parties and meetings as the primary cause behind an uptick in Covid-19 cases in the UAE.

He warned that failure to implement precautionary measures — such as ensuring social distance, wearing masks, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings — was also behind the recent surge in numbers.

Authorities in Dubai have ramped up Covid inspection checks, with penalties of non-compliance ranging from closure orders to hefty fines.
