Amid a spike in Covid-19 cases, the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Ajman has issued new guidelines and protocols in the emirate.

The new guidelines are aimed at limiting public gatherings, which have been found to be the main reason behind the surge.

Under the new protocols, wedding and event halls in the emirate are not allowed to host more than 50 people, a top DED official said. All precautionary measures should remain in place throughout any function.

The department has ramped up inspections across the since Tuesday to verify compliance, he added. “Inspectors will deal firmly with violators to ensure the safety of community members."

Cafes and restaurants should also be closed by midnight, and their capacity capped at 50 per cent, he added.

Employees and customers must strictly wear face masks and observe social distancing.
