The Abu Dhabi Municipality has delivered food items to more than 10,000 Emirati families at subsidised prices in April.

Over the past weeks, the municipality's sales centre in Abu Dhabi's Muroor area sold out 307,036 commodities to 6,294 families at subsidised prices and 17,747 items were delivered to 613 families in Abu Dhabi city centre. The Mussafah centre delivered 107,102 items to 2,535 families, while the Shahama Center witnessed the sale of 20,092 commodities to 834 Emirati families.

The municipality said it was monitoring the availability of food commodities in all outlets in Abu Dhabi city and the mainland daily, through the use of its smart systems in the daily inventory.

During the food distribution, the municipality implements all the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus among the community members, outlets and their employees.

Beneficiaries order food commodities through the digital platform, SmartHub, launched by the department and will include the municipalities of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and the Municipality of Al Dhafra Region.

Earlier this week, municipality said it handed out Ramadan meals to 755 needy families in the Capital. The Ramadan meal baskets contained basic food items, such as rice, sugar, flour, pasta, lentils, dates, tea, salt, soup cubes, tomato paste, cooking oil, caramel cream, jelly, juices, beans, chickpeas, milk, mash, tissue boxes, drinking water bottles, as well as sterilisers and gloves.

The food baskets, which is part of Ramadan Meer initiative, were delivered to the homes of each of the beneficiaries as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The programme is as part of the municipality's commitment to societal responsibility, and to devote concepts of solidarity among members of the society. It also aims to bring joy and happiness to the needy families during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport in April said it had doubled the quantities of subsidised food distributed to the beneficiaries of Ramadan Meer, as part of its commitment to societal responsibility.

The department announced, "The food items for the beneficiaries of Ramadan Meer will be available at the participating societies and the food commodity distribution centres for the municipalities from April until the end of May, coinciding with the holy month."

Beneficiaries also benefit from the service of "Sales Outlets Support" launched by the Transport Integrated Centre, which will provide goods delivery services via taxis, in coordination with all outlets across the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Families that benefit from the Ramadan Meer will be able to choose the subsidised foodstuff and commodities, from more than 200 items.
