Shane Manning, a Dubai-based triathlete who was discharged from the hospital after recovery from coronavirus, has urged people to stay at home so that they can stay out of hospital.

"I am really, really happy to be home again. It has been long nine days in the hospital," Manning, 42, told Khaleej Times.

An Australian expat and dad of triplets, Manning tested positive on March 22, and called the virus "the nastiest thing" he had ever experienced. "I never thought the virus could take down really badly a healthy, middle-aged man like me, who regularly exercises, eats well and sleeps well," he said earlier from his hospital bed.

After spending nine days in hospital, Manning was discharged on Thursday.  He said he was discharged after testing negative thrice. "But I still have to remain in home-quarantine for two weeks.

Manning's wife, Suman Manning also tested positive but she is asymptomatic and is also in quarantine at home.

"I have finally had some good news from the doctors and it looks as though I have finally turned the proverbial corner," Manning said in a video he had posted on Instagram.

"The biggest most sincere thank you to Dr Samara Khatib and her extended team. The doctors, nurses, the cleaners, the admin staff, everyone. all of them here at Mediclinic. You guys are simply amazing," Manning wrote on his Instagram with pictures of the medical staff.

In the video where manning was seen stepping out of the hospital wearing a mask, he called it "happinnes, pure happiness," to be out in the sun again.

"Please, please, please stay safe and stay smart. If you do, you probably won't have to stay in hospital," manning warned residents while thanking everyone who supported him.
