While more volunteers are now registering to be part of the Phase III clinical trials of an inactivated vaccine for Covid-19, Ahmed Mohamed Al Shaibani, an Emirati person of determination working as a senior call centre officer at Al Ain Hospital, is happy to have already done his part.
An active volunteer for many community projects, Al Shaibani was among the first to contribute to the initiative. The clinical trials began in Abu Dhabi on July 16. "I am happy to contribute to overcoming this new challenge, despite my disability. Involvement in such clinical trials is a national duty," he said.
"The UAE community never fails to respond to the appeal of the nation. This was echoed when everyone chanted the UAE National Anthem during the National Sterilisation Programme, to express their commitment and responsibility towards the nation," he added.

A man of great determination and patriotism - Ahmed Mohammed Al Sheibani is a Senior Call Center Officer at Al Ain Hospital, and was among the first to answer the nation's call for volunteers to participate in the clinical trials for a COVID-19 vaccine.

Though he is exempted by law from going to the workplace as part of the Covid-19 restrictions, this determined Emirati with nearly 20 years of experience, attends office every day and strictly adheres to the precautionary and preventive measures in place.
In addition, he is an active athlete, playing in the Emirates National Team at Al Ain Sports and Cultural Club.
Al Shaibani has called on more people of determination to take part in the cause and play an integral role in the country's progress.

UAE authorities had earlier said that the trials for Covid-19 vaccine had reached the target of 15,000 volunteers in less than a month, with individuals from 102 nationalities participating in the programme.
