Mega cruise ship AIDAprima departed the UAE's shores safely last week with a skeletal crew on board - but not before putting out a personalised word of thanks to Dubai authorities.
The ship, which had been forced to dock at Port Rashid since early March due to the pandemic, lit its windows with a message that read: "Shukraan Dubai. Thank you Dubai. We love 2 c u again (sic)."
In response to the global outbreak of Covid-19, the UAE had stepped up its measures for public safety and suspended all cruises operating out of the country in March.

The AIDAprima was in the middle of what should have been a booming Middle East cruise season, when the measures were announced, causing them to cancel the remainder of their season and dock in Dubai.
While in town, authorities took care of passengers, facilitating their safe disembarkation and repatriation to their respective countries.
A spokesperson for Aida Cruises said, "Our crew on board is fine. However, they miss their guests and their regular operations. They wanted to say a thank you to Dubai and send Easter greetings to the Aida fans."
Subject to the reopening of cruise operations, AIDA Cruises has confirmed that AIDAprima hopes to be back in Dubai later this year for the 2020/21 Middle East cruise season, which runs from November to April every year.
