Vande Bharat Mission: Repatriation flights fly Indians back home amid coronavirus crisis

Dubai - In the last 24 hours, multiple Air India flights have flown citizens back to India.

Multiple repatriation flights carrying Indian citizens home under the Vande Bharat mission have been successfully completed, according to Dr S Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India.
In the last 24 hours alone, four Air India flights and one Uzbekistan Airways flight have landed at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports, carrying passengers from Manila, San Francisco, London, Riyadh and Uzbekistan.
The Air India special flight from the US was the first of its kind, and brought in 225 Indians from San Francisco.
Meanwhile, the Uzbekistan Airways flight will carry back Uzbek nationals and Indian medicine assistance to the capital of Tashkent.
Dr S Jaishankar commended all the relevant government and diplomatic authorities in a series of tweets for their "remarkable" and "sterling" efforts.
Vande Bharat is one of the world's biggest rescue missions being undertaken for stranded Indians abroad in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
The first two flights from the UAE departed on May 7, with more being planned in the coming days.
