UAE mulls reopening schools, universities with Covid-19 safety measures
The possibility of re-opening of educational institutions will take place as per a well-studied plan.
The possibility of educational institutions in the UAE reopening in September depends on "assessment of evolving changes" related to Covid-19, a minister has said. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said it will happen as per a "well-studied plan" that includes all safety and precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus.
It would also depend on health requirements issued by competent authorities, he added.
This came as the minister briefed the Education and Human Resources Council about plans to resuming studies in general educational institutions, including re-opening of public and private universities and schools.
Al Hammadi stressed the ministry's keenness to ensure the "highest levels of protection and safety" for students and teaching and administrative staff.
He also noted the ministry's support for workers to disinfect educational institutions and modes of transport in line with requirements issued by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and instructions of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and the World Health Organisation.
On-campus learning had been suspended across all education institutions in the UAE in March as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19. Education went online as schools and colleges implemented e-learning.
During the meeting chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday, the Education and Human Resources Council attributed the success of the e-learning to the "high sense of national responsibility shown by all parties concerned".
