'We have to follow precautionary measures and completely avoid relatives and friends'

People have various plans for Eid Al Fitr, but their thoughts have a common prayer for a world free of Covid-19.

Rashid Edathod and family will continue to fervently pray to Allah for a vaccine. In the past few months, Edathod has been at the forefront of supporting the needy and feels celebration has to wait until the situation returns to normalcy.

"We don't have anything special this Eid like we used to. We will follow traditions. My wife Sahadiya will prepare biryani. We have to make the atmosphere lively for our kids - Hanaan and Safvaan, who have followed #StayHome for more than two months. I have bought new dresses for them. But, we will continue to remain indoors and join the world in prayer for those suffering from this disease."

A.M. Nizar and his family are bracing for a toned-down celebration. "We will stay at home and greetings will be exchanged virtually. I, my wife Sulaikha and son Fahad will first greet Firdous, my daughter who is studying in Canada.

"Apart from preparing the feast, we have to follow precautionary measures and completely avoid relatives and friends. All of them will be missed but we will catch up with them through video conferencing app. We pray to Allah the almighty to overcome this situation at the earliest and to come back to our normal life soon," he added.

'Everything will be back'

Author Rafees Maranchery dedicates his new e-book 'Ombathaalum Oroanthum' based on the pandemic as an Eid gift. "The book narrates the tales of nine different people and a creature living in a cemetery. One of them is of a Covid-19 positive character, who gives confidence to another person with mild symptoms. Instead of spreading hate messages, let's use words to bring peace."
