It is quite a sobering thought that every morning hundreds of people wake up and discover that Covid-19 has found their number and dialled it, so to speak. And it is not an idle thought, but despite the torrent of information that we have been given these past few weeks many of us wouldn't have a clue on what to do if we suspected through a cough or a sore throat that, uh oh, this is not good news.

Would you know what number to call, which hospital to go to, what protocols to follow, or would you simply stew in the simmering fear of facing the fact that you are 'it' for better or worse?

The first reaction would be disbelief, but that is natural. I'd probably be a little angry too, like why me?

Pointless would be to waste time figuring out how I got it. It is a futile effort and makes more sense to isolate oneself and ensure that family or mates around you and in proximity are distanced and made aware that you have it. Keeping it secret is criminal and has to be seen as an offense.

Keep your official paperwork handy. Perish the thought but just in case things go horribly wrong it makes sense to confide your financial assets details, your will, your insurance papers and other such documentation so that your family is aware.

Get to a medical facility fast. Do not panic. I would imagine that panic and fear about worse-case scenarios can be an overpowering mix and hit you harder than the virus itself. Not much has been written about this aspect but your mental makeup and an optimistic outlook make for a strong resistance. Ready yourself for the good fight and you will overcome. Mind over matter has worked to overcome great odds, so stiff upper lip always.

Also have the courage and courtesy to inform those whom you have met in the past few days, especially those with children or the elderly or compromised in their immunity.

We are long past the blame-game stage and nobody points fingers at anyone unless it is because of callous indifference to the safety of others. Stay safe.
